Channels in Workly keep your team’s conversations organised by topic, project, or team. This guide covers how to create, manage, and get the most out of channels.
Types of conversations
- Public channels — Visible to everyone in the workspace. Anyone can join and participate.
- Private channels — Only visible to invited members. Use for sensitive discussions or specific teams.
- Direct messages — Private one-on-one conversations.
- Group messages — Private conversations with multiple selected participants.
Create a channel
- Click the + icon next to Channels in the chat sidebar
- Enter a channel name
- Add an optional description
- Choose public or private
- Invite initial members
- Click Create
Add and remove members
Open a channel and click the Members icon in the header to:
- View current members
- Add new members — Search for workspace members and add them
- Remove members — Channel admins can remove members from the channel
Channel settings
Click the channel name or settings icon to access:
- Channel name — Rename the channel
- Description — Update the channel’s purpose
- Visibility — Switch between public and private
Browse channels
Discover public channels in your workspace by browsing the channel list. Click Join on any public channel to start participating in the conversation.
Start a video call from chat
Click the video call icon in any channel or DM header to start an instant video call with the participants. The meeting link is automatically shared in the conversation. Learn more about meetings in Workly.
